The first sources about the mastic tree from Chios go back to Herodotus (484-420 BC). Since antiquity, Greek doctors like Hippocrates have been revealing the medicinal attributes of mastic which travelled to Chalcedon, Egypt and the Arab lands as a rare gift of Greek nature.
